Why does personal finance matter?
~
Personal finance isn't hard, but we physicians are bad at it
Physicians have low financial literacy, high debt, and deficits in their financial preparedness. Poor financial literacy contributes to the ever-growing problems of physician stress, job dissatisfaction, burnout, and depression within primary care.
Why does financial independence matter to me?
Financial independence means having the freedom to do what you are passionate about, whether it is pursuing the job you love, retiring early, or volunteering abroad
What is MR. FISCAL?
MR. FISCAL is a collaboration of faculty family physicians. The MR. FISCAL Curriculum is a pragmatic, easy-to-access, free resource for medical schools, residencies and individuals
How is MR. FISCAL different?
Our curriculum is free, easy and unbiased. The series is short and curated for physicians. Unlike advisors, we don't make money off of you in any way

About
~
MR. FISCAL (Medical Residency Financial Skills Curriculum to Advance Financial Literacy) started as an educational research project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During a faculty development fellowship, 10 faculty family physicians agreed that young doctors were not receiving the training they needed and deserved in personal finance. Most training was minimal (or absent), biased, non-applicable or impractical.
Many barriers exist to personal finance education. The topic is taboo to discuss and most docs don't feel comfortable giving pragmatic, universal advice in the area. Medical schools and residencies often do not prioritize integrating a personal finance curriculum into their busy schedules.
MR. FISCAL Personal Finance Series was created. Five short, applicable basic personal finance videos created for physicians by physicians.
The series can be shown during lecture time or viewed independently by clicking the links below. The accompanying workbook translates lessons into action.
We are also available for in-person personal finance workshops for your medical students or residents.
